It is a pure concentrate of a single plant, with no added notes or fixatives, exactly as distillation released it.

Hence its strength. You cannot sniff a drop of essential oil the way you test a perfume sample. In an aroma lamp or diffuser, two or three drops in a bowl of water are enough to keep the scent in the room for hours. More does not mean better. An excess of concentrate makes the smell heavy and quickly tiring.

This purity is also what gives the oils their practical value. Living plant material carries its own energy, and in an aroma lamp it shifts the state of a space more noticeably than any synthetic fragrance. This is why only natural oils are used for rituals and meditation. The mood of a space is set by the plant itself.

How many drops should I add to an aroma lamp?

For a standard aroma lamp or diffuser bowl, two or three drops in the water are enough. For a large room you can add a fourth, but no more. Go by the scent: it should feel soft and not sharp. If the aroma has become heavy, add water and use less oil next time.

Can I apply essential oil to the skin undiluted?

Better not to. A pure concentrate is too strong for the skin and can cause irritation or a burn, even if the oil is fully natural. For the body it is diluted in a carrier oil, such as almond, coconut or grapeseed. This is the most common worry among beginners, and the rule is simple. On the skin, oil goes only diluted. Into an aroma lamp, it is dropped as is.

How long does an essential oil keep?

On average two to three years, if the bottle is tightly closed and kept in a dark, cool place. Light, heat and air are the main enemies of oil, they oxidize it and it loses its aroma. Citrus oils fade faster than conifer and resin ones. Keep the bottle closed, and it will last its full stated shelf life.
