This is the first part of the extraordinary two-volume Tarot deck Book of Shadows. The second part, “As Below”, was published in 2013. The Book of Shadows Tarot is the first volume created by tarot expert Barbara Moore. The first volume, titled “As Above”, focuses on universal and divine energies, while the second volume, “As Below”, is centered on everyday human experiences.
The Book of Shadows refers to a collection of grimoires owned by some pagan witches, containing their secret knowledge of rituals, magical techniques, and stages of personal spiritual development. It resembles a personal journal, where diary entries and sketches are interwoven with important revelations, wise thoughts, and reminders.
If a book is a fixed sequence of pages, a Tarot deck—often called a “book without a fixed order”—differs in that its cards can be rearranged and read in any sequence.
Each Tarot Arcana is a window that, through universal Wiccan symbols and imagery, helps develop intuition and establish a connection with the subtle world—day by day, discovery by discovery.
This Tarot is a materialization of a great idea associated with Hermes Trismegistus, recorded in the Emerald Tablets and the Law of Correspondence:
“As above, so below; as below, so above.”
Part I: “As Above”
Represents the universal aspect of the Book of Shadows, focusing on Wiccan beliefs and the laws of the Universe.
Part II: “As Below” (planned for release in 2013)
Represents the human aspect of the Book of Shadows, revealing how universal energy flows downward and manifests in everyday events.
Both Tarot decks were developed over three years by six renowned artists and experts.
