Ascetic practice (ascesis) is a word everyone has heard at least once. But what does it actually mean?

 

Ascesis is not simply giving something up or fasting: it is a kind of agreement with the Universe that we are releasing something specific in favor of something desired. During ascesis, we free up energy that we were wasting or blocking through our actions.

There are also certain rules for this process to make it conscious and to ensure it is implemented in the best possible way:

It is essential to define a goal. Not in the sense of: “I will quit smoking and get riches” or “Starting Monday I will stop eating sweets at night and my life will change.” Ascesis is not the same as a promise. It is an expression of will that truly helps improve a chosen area of life.
Ascesis must be feasible for the practitioner: choose a specific restriction and a specific time period for it.
It is recommended not to tell anyone about your ascesis, so as not to dissipate the energy of intention you are investing in it.
Live through this period with gratitude and understanding of why you chose this path.

How to properly write a request to the Universe?
“I, FULL NAME, declare to the Universe my intention to undertake ascesis of (state what you are giving up) for (state duration, minimum = 21 days), and I direct all released energy toward (state goal) for the benefit of myself and all living beings on planet Earth. So be it!

Date. Signature.”

After completing your ascesis, it is important to properly close it:

“I, FULL NAME, declare before the Universe the completion of my ascesis of (state the subject of ascesis) for a period of (state duration). I receive all released energy with great gratitude and direct it toward (restate goal) for the benefit of myself and all living beings on planet Earth. So be it!”

In this way, you enter into an agreement and, after its term, formally close the arrangement with the Universe. We also recommend keeping a journal or notebook where you can write down your daily progress during this practice!
