“Dao De Jing” is one of the oldest and most important texts of ancient Chinese philosophical thought, which forms a cornerstone of the traditional Chinese worldview. For this reason, it has long been granted the status of a canonical text (jing) and is considered a kind of “bible” of one of China’s major philosophical traditions—Daoism.
The Ukrainian reader is offered not only a new translation of the work and detailed commentary on each fragment, but also the original text based on archaeological discoveries of previously unknown manuscripts. The translation is accompanied by an afterword analyzing the historical context of the text’s origin, its specific terminology, and its fundamental philosophical ideas.
