The Veles Book is an invaluable literary monument of the Ukrainian people from the pre-Christian period, a sensational discovery made by Colonel Ali Isenbek of the Denikin army in an estate in the Kharkiv region in 1919. It enriched our knowledge of the history of Ukraine, shedding light on little-known events from the 12th century BC to the 9th century AD, and provided insight into the life and beliefs of our ancestors.
The Veles Book testifies that our distant forebears possessed a developed sense of human dignity, national consciousness, patriotism, remarkable creative abilities, and a high level of spirituality and morality. Their sacred love for their native land was expressed through their ability to defend it, thanks to which they survived. They were also able to “love the green and life-giving world, love their friends, and live peacefully among tribes.”
