Symbolon Oracle — a deck created in Germany in the 1980s by Peter Orban, Ingrid Zinnel, and Thea Weller. Unlike Tarot, it shares only the same number of cards (78). The purpose of the Symbolon Tarot is to revive memories and reawaken moments from past lives. Working with the cards is like a psychotherapeutic session, during which the “patient” becomes aware of a problem, returns to its origins, and understands how to resolve it. The images on the cards represent European myths and history, bringing human consciousness back into the past. An astrological symbol is depicted in the corner of each card. Therefore, in addition to developing psychological insight and memory, Symbolon can also be used together with astrological knowledge.
Working with the cards does not require knowledge of astrology. The goal in both approaches is the same: to remember, to find the symbol (Symbolon) from the past, and to bring it back into wholeness.
The name of the deck comes from the Greek word “symbollon.” This referred to clay tablets that Greeks used when traveling. One half was kept by one person, and the other half by someone important to them. Journeys could last for years, and over time people might no longer recognize each other. The two halves of the tablet were used to reunite them.
