In collaboration with artist Pamela Colman Smith, Arthur Edward Waite created a new Tarot deck. As a fellow member of the same Order, Smith was deeply inspired by the idea of expressing Hermetic teachings through symbolic Tarot imagery.
Thanks to Waite’s clairvoyant vision and the creative intuition of Pamela Colman Smith, who brought his concept to life, each Tarot card gained a fully developed symbolic illustration expressing its meaning.
From the very first encounter through to professional use in interpretation and psychology, the Rider–Waite Tarot reveals extraordinary depth, offering multiple layers of observation and understanding. Today, it is impossible to imagine a modern Tarot practitioner without this deck.
Being the first Tarot system in which all 78 cards are fully illustrated, it laid the foundation for contemporary visual interpretation-based Tarot reading. The Rider–Waite Tarot remains both a fundamental base and the archetype of nearly all modern Tarot decks.
