From the author
“Illustrating Tarot was a completely unexpected surprise for me, because I had never thought about creating a Tarot deck, and my knowledge of esotericism and divination is limited to basic concepts. However, this surprise quickly turned into curiosity, and—as always when I face a new challenge—I began to ‘study’ this unusual, unknown, and boundless world with the ease that only a beginner can afford.
Soon I discovered that I was fascinated and, above all, inspired by the immense possibilities that Tarot offers to the imagination of a visual artist.
I thought it would be interesting to place the Major Arcana in a slightly freakish world—a Horror Circus that, rather than frightening, would create an atmosphere of mystery and decadent poetry. I imagined a place where the Magician is a serial killer, the Emperor is a gorilla, and the High Priestess is Siamese twins; where everything seems innocent but is dangerous, and danger is softened by a smile or a sound.
Through my illustrations, I tried to express the lyricism of Tarot and, through my work, bring back the magic of this timeless world.”
