The art of Yoga contains a vast system of physical and spiritual practices. The 78 Arcana of the Yoga Tarot, symbolizing the most important stages of attaining moksha, will guide you along the challenging path of spiritual ascent. The four suits of the Minor Arcana, representing the four main types of Yoga, can be used not only for divination but also for practical work: thanks to the illustrations on the Yoga Tarot cards depicting corresponding asana poses, this magical deck also serves as an excellent guide for physical practice. Tarot and Yoga form a beautiful fusion of two different cultural approaches to understanding the world and oneself within it.
The Major Arcana of the Yoga Tarot, symbolizing the key stages of yogic practice, will lead you along the path of spiritual ascent; the four suits of the Minor Arcana, representing the four main types of Yoga, through illustrations showing the relevant asana poses, can be used not only for divination but also for practical application.
The word “Yoga” comes from the Sanskrit root “Yuj,” meaning “to bind,” as well as “to direct, concentrate attention,” “to apply,” and “to use.” It also denotes union or unity.
The Yoga Tarot can be an excellent tool both for practicing yogis and for those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of this philosophical system, which is as ancient as it is modern. The traditions of Yoga and Tarot have followed different paths, yet both lead to the same final destination: deep self-knowledge. A querent consulting the Yoga Tarot may find that the reading raises more questions than it answers. But that is not important—the goal is not to find final answers, but to feel an inner impulse, to look into the depths of consciousness, and discover the hidden roots that nourish our individuality.
The deck is painted in watercolor, with very vivid, almost psychedelic symbolism. It includes yoga postures, Indian motifs, and imagery of spiritual power.
The creators of the deck, Massimiliano Filadoro and A. Farina, aimed to connect each body pose (asana) with its meaning. They succeeded especially well with poses named after animals and birds. The images can serve as reminders for beginner yogis of the importance not only of correct physical alignment but also of maintaining the proper mental image of each asana.
